Why do I love Manufacturing?
The Wrong Image of Manufacturing:
Though, the (wrong) image of manufacturing is:
⚙️ A filthy workplace
⚙️ Noisy shop-floor
⚙️ Work in the field of labour.
⚙️ Females find it unappealing.
⚙️ Sweat & chaos all around.
My Image of Manufacturing:
But my image of manufacturing is:
📌 Art: most efficient use of 4M — Man, Method, Material and Machine.
📌 Creativity is required to transform a drawing into a practical product.
📌 Science: Whether you do it or I do it, the results will remain the same (as long as the process is the same).
📌 Strategy: We do a lot of Failure mode & effect analysis and install a lot of Poka-Yoke for foolproofing.
📌 Commerce: Money matters— We know it better.
📌 Service: We solve customer’s problems.
📌 Philosophy: We began with the voice of the customer. For any improvement, first, we accept there is a problem.
📌 Planning: It requires meticulous planning to ensure 100% OTIF (on-time, in full) to customers.
📌 Human Resource: A skilled team & a talented leader equals success.
📌 Engineering: Complexity in the backend, but too simplistic on the front end.
📌 Safety and ergonomics are of the utmost importance.
📌 Facts: We don’t say we produce a lot. We say we produce 100 pieces/ hour.
📌 Statistics: On the shop floor, you will witness statistics in action.
Supply Chain, Reverse Supply Chain, Logistics and so on…
In summary
🎯 your outcomes are defined by four parameters: Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery.
🎯 It offers you a sense of accomplishment.
🎯 There is no room for BS.
