I recently asked one of our prospective customer and he showed me his last month schedule which (as I remember) looked like this. Too much!!!
- Purchase Managers are held responsible for results (specially BAD results), whereas decision is taken by Cross Functional Team. We assign KAM (Key Account Manager) who will follow up with CFT members and ensure successful launch.
- Many departments are there to say NO. He is the only one who is fighting internally as well as externally.
- He is always asked to spend wisely, but never advised what is wise? The advisers ignore market realities or pretend about them..
- The Purchase Manager always have to explain about inventory, but none focus on ordering errors by Planning department.
- Everyone asks why supplier is not delivering, none asked what is the reason? (Payment? / Breakdown? / Manpower Shortage? ..)
- If he asks price reduction, he is cruel for supplier. If he doesn’t ask Price reduction, he is not performing his job.
- Management, when meet supplier, they commit all support. Later management put their demand to the Purchase Manager only (not to supplier).
